Matters

Open My Desk → Matters. Each matter is a file that collects everything for one brief: sources, research threads, notes, tasks, documents, and drafts, with a timeline of activity.

Creating a matter

When you create a matter you give it a name and choose a workflow type. The workflow drives the document checklist and readiness gates for that kind of work, so the Matter Room can tell you what it still needs before drafting.

The Matter Room

The Matter Room is the working surface for a matter. Inside it you can:

• Add sources — upload files or paste text (pleadings, affidavits, correspondence, authorities). Sources are classified automatically, and you can reclassify, replace, or annotate them with context notes, individually or in bulk.
• Run research threads — chat conversations grounded on the matter's own sources, so answers cite your record, not just the general database. A matter can hold several threads for different issues.
• Work the issues and facts — build an issue list, run grounded issue analysis, review the factual matrix, and record counsel's position.
• Collect authorities — save authorities and notes into the matter as you go.
• Draft — once the workflow's readiness gates are satisfied, generate drafts from the matter's confirmed record and refine them in the editor.

The room recomputes readiness every time you open it, so the checklist always reflects what is still missing.

Documents, tasks, and notes

Each matter also holds uploaded documents (with an in-browser viewer and a generated Word document index), tasks you can tick off, and free-form notes. Research from the Legal Research chat can be saved directly into a matter's notes.

My Desk → Library is the professional judgment library — unlimited saved judgments with court and year filters, sorting, and pinning for the authorities you reach for constantly.
