Semantis AI ("Semantis", "we", "us") operates an AI-assisted legal research platform for South African law, available at semantis.ai. These terms govern your access to and use of the platform, including the free trial, paid subscription tiers, and all related features.
By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these terms. If you use the platform on behalf of a firm or organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation, and "you" includes it.
Semantis is a research tool. Search results, summaries, reportability scores, citation treatments, drafts and other AI-generated output are provided to assist your own research and judgment. They are not legal advice, do not create an attorney-client relationship, and may contain errors or omissions. You remain solely responsible for verifying any authority, citation or proposition against the primary source before relying on it in advice, pleadings or argument.
You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials confidential. Accounts are for a single named user unless your plan expressly provides otherwise. You may not: share access in breach of your plan; scrape, bulk-download or resell the corpus or outputs as a competing service; reverse-engineer the platform; use it for unlawful purposes; or attempt to circumvent usage limits or security measures.
Paid plans are billed monthly in South African Rand through our payment processor. New accounts receive a 14-day free trial with capped usage; at the end of the trial, continued use requires a paid plan. Each tier carries a monthly query allocation and feature set as described on the pricing page. You may cancel at any time, with effect from the end of the current billing period; fees already paid are not refunded except where required by law. Prices may change on reasonable notice, effective from your next billing cycle.
Documents you upload (private uploads, matter documents, notes and drafts) remain yours. You grant us the licence needed to store, process and display them to you and to operate the features you invoke on them. Private uploads are not shared with other users and are not used to train third-party models.
We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). In summary: we collect the information needed to operate your account, process payments, and provide the service; we do not sell personal information. Queries and documents are processed by third-party AI providers as necessary to deliver the service. For privacy enquiries or to exercise your POPIA rights, contact admin@semantis.ai.
We aim for high availability but the platform is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may improve, modify or discontinue features, and may suspend accounts that breach these terms.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or in connection with the platform is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, or loss arising from reliance on AI-generated output contrary to clause 3. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 where it applies.
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts for material breach of these terms. On termination we will, on request and within a reasonable period, provide export of your own uploaded content before deletion in the ordinary course.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder stands. We may update these terms from time to time; material changes will be notified on the platform or by email, and continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
